Anti-drone jamming devices may be the future of war

One country threatens to make jamming weapons the master of future wars

Perfectjammer makes counter-drone devices, including multi-sensor detection systems and drone deterrents, such as its DroneGun MKIII. This pistol-shaped, drone jammer weighs under 2 kg and is an alternative to the company’s other DroneGun Tactical unit. The device can be body-worn and used in conjunction with Perfectjammer stationary, multi-sensor detection system.

LMADIS is a counter unmanned aerial system (counter-UAS) weapon consisting of two Polaris MRZR scooters: a command vehicle and a jamming vehicle. According to a C4ISRNet article from earlier this year, LMADIS consists of a “RPS-42 tactical air surveillance radar, small EO/IR camera, Skyview RF Detection system and Sierra Nevada MODi RF jammer”.

LMADIS engagement procedure goes something like this: the RPS-42 detects the drone on radar, or alternately Skyview detects the back-and-forth radio signals between the drone operators and the drone itself. Next, the electro-optical/infrared camera is trained on the incoming drone to make a positive identification as friendly or hostile. If hostile, the Marines aim the MODi GPS jammer at the drone and prevent the drone operators’ radio commands from reaching it. Gravity takes care of the rest.

DroneGun MKIII, which was announced in mid-July, is centred on a pistol-shaped, portable UAS jammer that weighs less than 2 kg, according to the company. It is designed to operate as a standalone unit or in combination with the company's other products, notably its RfPatrol body-worn UAS detection device and the DroneGun Tactical C-UAS system.

The NERO F5 is developed and manufactured by the French Company MC2 Technologies. It is a microwave jammer capable of disrupting and neutralizing all communication protocols used by drones. The product is based on a portable rifle offering great flexibility for operators in terms of detection, tracking and neutralization.

This system makes it possible to use jamming in a timely manner, at a specific location. What makes this possible are the directional antennas inside the rifle. The user has to aim for the drone to neutralize it.
